Why choose PAMIA?
PAMIA is the pre-eminent provider of professional indemnity insurance to patent and trade mark attorneys in the UK and Ireland. It provides expert claims support, significantly reduced premiums and a flexible approach to procedures.
Expert claims support
PAMIA employs a specialist team of in-house claims handlers who manage all claims and notifications. Given that Members own the organisation, these claims handlers take a supportive approach to any claim, working with Members to help achieve the best possible outcome.
The team has an excellent reputation for successfully defending claims. It also helps Members to resolve disputes and helps them to avoid potential problems recurring.
Competitive premiums
As a mutual, PAMIA is a not for profit organisation with no shareholders. It only serves trade mark and patent attorneys – a relatively low risk community. This means that premiums can be offered at significantly lower levels than commercial rates.
Individual claims records are not taken into account in assessing the premium paid by each Member.
Flexible procedures
The Board has the power to be flexible in accepting non-standard claims or those that may have failed to follow designated procedures to the letter. A Claims Committee provides procedural and technical advice to the claims handlers and is always willing to advise Members on individual notifications where it might be helpful.
Sound finances
PAMIA is financed by premiums and investment income earned on its reserves. The entire premium is paid into a fund in which the Members retain an immediate interest.
Through expert claims management and prudent investment, PAMIA has built up a robust reserve over 20 years. To protect its funds from the unlikely event of large losses, PAMIA also purchases reinsurance, which is placed by the brokers, Willis.
